Oregon Cultural Trust.

To paraphrase John Keating: while medicine, law, engineering, and business are noble pursuits, necessary to sustain life…poetry, music, beauty, romance, and love are the things we stay alive for.

Of course, all sides of this equation are easier postulated than accomplished, for while writers must write, writers must also eat, pay the rent, and, every now and again, buy a pair of clean pants. Magic, in short, takes money.

So, how are we to balance these two intertwined -but often adversarial- forces…those of commerce and creation?

On this Sunday’s Outlook Portland (6:30am, on NW32 TV), we’ll learn about The Oregon Cultural Trust, who help to support and sustain art throughout our fair state. Kimberly Howard, Trust Manager, will give a truly compelling history and overview of this sometimes-unheralded organization; additionally, we’ll speak with David Hattner, conductor and music director of the Portland Youth Philharmonic, who have, themselves, benefited from the Trust’s patronage.

The show will also feature another “Outlook Portland Editorial Reply”, brought to you by our marquee sponsor, Things From Another World. This week’s guest editorialist: Godzilla, King of the Monsters.

Outlook Portland, Sunday at 6:30am, only on NW32 TV…the home of Gossip Girl, Vampire Diaries, and Rick Emerson.
