It was about this time, one year ago, that an Outlook Portland (6:30am, on NW32 TV) episode focused on a handful of local businesses; some were gaining momentum, and some were already near-institutions. One, however, was just preparing to launch….and doing so into the teeth of the worst recession in 80 years.
Lisa Wood, a longtime fixture on Northwest radio, and her husband, Brian, a restaurant industry veteran, were early believers in Portland’s growing food cart movement. Finding themselves in what the guy who fires you calls “a time of transition”, they jumped right in…and appeared on Outlook Portland to talk about their expectations and apprehensions for the new venture.
The venture was so new, in fact, that even its name was a matter of some uncertainty, with various entities (and the owners themselves) debating whether Portland was ready for the culinary offerings of a place called “Big-Ass Sandwiches”.
Now, a year later, they join me on Outlook Portland once again…to talk about the good, the bad, and the things they never would have guessed.
Lisa and Brian Wood of Big-Ass Sandwiches: this Sunday on Outlook Portland.
The show will also feature another “Outlook Portland Editorial Reply”, brought to you by our marquee sponsor, Things From Another World. This week’s guest editorialist: Megatron, leader of the Decepticons.
